edX was launched in 2012 by the MIT and Harvard University. In February

2012 Professor Agarwal’s launched MIT Circuits and Electronics course on

edX.org. The main focus of launching the edX.org education portal was

to increase access to high-quality education for everyone, everywhere in

the world without the barriers of cost or location. The vision statement of

edX was ‘As a mission-driven organization, we’re relentlessly pursuing our

vision of a world where every learner can access education to unlock their

potential, without the barriers of cost or location’.

In 2013 edX platform was released as open-source software whereby

universities or private training companies can launch their courses on its
